The 2015–2021 site kept /bauple_museum/ and /bauple_museum.html as their own URLs, separate from the town slug /bauple/. Wayback still lists both as 200s. This rebuild keeps the underscore path live. The Bauple town page is the highway exit, the hill country, and why the street is worth ten minutes. This page is the collection: what the room is for, how volunteer hours work, and how not to waste a Maryborough morning on a locked door.

What the room is
Bauple’s museum is a hinterland civic collection — local objects, photographs, and the ordinary kit of a sugar-and-timber district south-west of Maryborough. It is not Hervey Bay Historical Village. It is not Brennan & Geraghty’s Store. It is smaller, and that is the point. You come because you already decided the towns map deserved a hinterland hour.
Interpretive density depends on whoever is on the door. That is normal for volunteer Queensland. Treat any exhibit list you find on a third-party blog as a rumour until you are in the room.
The old site’s /bauple/museum.jpg style photography was the building and the picnic ground, not a catalogue. We will not reconstruct a caption as a current floorplan.
Hours are the whole sport
Hinterland museums open when someone has the key. Regional notes have long described limited days, not a seven-day shopfront. That is exactly the kind of fact that goes stale. Confirm the week you travel. If the door is locked, the town essay still gives you a legal pause and a mountain in the rear-view. Do not lean on a verandah that is not yours.

How to pair it
Attach the museum to a Maryborough morning, not to a K’gari dawn and not to a whale departure. Maryborough’s Portside and mural walk, then Bauple if the collection is open, then back to Hervey Bay for a swim — that is a hinterland day. Bauple museum plus Brooweena Historical Village plus an island barge is a cartoon.
The museums hub is the family of rooms. This underscore path exists so Wayback and old inbound links do not 404 or collapse into a generic index.
What we will not invent
No “number one hinterland museum” badge. No live price. No secret object that “you must see”. No claim that Mount Bauple is a casual summit stroll from the car park. Local tracks and closures belong on current signage and council or parks notices, not on this desk.

Why keep an underscore URL
Heritage IA from the pre-spam site used _museum suffixes for Bauple, Brooweena, Brennan, Burrum and the Hervey Bay village. This rebuild preserves /bauple_museum/ as a 200. Other underscore museum slugs that were thin aliases — /brennan_museum/, /burrum_museum/, /hbhv_museum/ — map to the museums hub so we do not run five empty twins. Bauple earned its own essay because the town and the room are different questions.
The 2024–26 /business/ spam directory is gone (410). This is tourism again.
If you only remember one thing
Phone. Then decide if the room is open enough to leave the bay. The town slug /bauple/ will still be there if the answer is no. The Bruce Highway will still be louder than this street. That is why the old site bothered with a separate museum URL in the first place.
Bring coins or a card, patience, and the getting there sense that hinterland kilometres are not “on the way” to Urangan Pier. They are a second clock.
Field notes for a locked door
If you arrive and the sign says closed, do not invent a workaround. Photograph the street from a public verge. Read the Bauple town notes. Drive back to Maryborough’s Portside if you still have appetite for rooms. The all-regions hinterland bucket is still true even when one volunteer is at the doctor.
