Lake Lenthall

The lake, built in 1984 and named after a pioneering family from the district, provides a safe, reliable water supply for the city of Hervey Bay.

Lake Lenthall was built at the confluence of Logbridge, Doongul, Harwood, Sugarbag, Duckinwillo and Woolmer Creeks. The catchment area starts in the Seaview Ranges, directly west of the lake.

The lake is approximately 8 kilometres long with a catchment area of more than 700 square kilometres. The Crest Gates were added in 2006 to increase the lake’s capacity from 17,800ML to 29,500ML.

Lake Lenthall is the main water supply for the Hervey Bay region and a great location for fishing or a family picnic. Public access is available daily from 6am to 8pm. There is an onsite ranger. There is also a viewing platform above the spillway that can be accessed on foot.

Each year, the Fraser Coast Fish Stocking Association stocks Lake Lenthall with fingerlings. Since 1984, almost 450,000 fingerlings have been released including: barramundi, Australian bass, golden perch (yellow belly) and silver perch.

Please note, the access road to the lake is unsealed. There are camping and recreation facilities on site, but be aware there is no electricity or drinking water and domestic pets are not allowed.

Short stay camping – up to three days/two nights is permitted.
