A Maryborough day from Hervey Bay

Maryborough is the hinterland half-day that still returns you to a Hervey Bay swim. The drive is commonly about thirty minutes. The mistake is treating it as a five-minute lookout stop, or as a full substitute for the bay.

A shape that works

Morning: Portside and the river, then one museum — Brennan & Geraghty’s Store or the Customs House / Bond Store pair. Midday: Queens Park shade. Afternoon: mural trail on the way back to the car, or the Original Maryborough Site if you like graves and interpretive signs. Home before anyone is bored.

The long civic essay is the Maryborough page. The museums hub holds the family of rooms. Art and heritage is the wider frame, including Butchulla Country on the island you are not visiting today.

Do not add Brooweena unless that Sunday is open and you have released the swim. Do not add K’gari on the same clock.

Maryborough was a working port. Walk it like one. Then go back to the calm water that the island makes possible.
