Hervey Bay
Fish for whiting, bream, flathead, reef fish and pelagics including giant trevally, tuna and mackerel from the 800 metre long Urangan Pier.

Fish off the rock wall at the Urangan Harbour, as well as just off the beach.

The inshore reefs around Big Woody Island and the Roy Rufus Artificial Reef are easily accessible from Urangan Harbour, Hervey Bay.

• Scarness: Esplanade.
• Torquay: Esplanade.

 

River Heads
Located at the head of the Mary River, River Heads has rocky outcrops and ledges which are home to many bream. Also flathead, javelin fish, mulloway, threadfin salmon and barramundi.

Boat Ramps –
• Barge Ramp, North Ramp, South Ramp.

 

Mary River, Maryborough
• Public jetty, Mary River Parklands: Near the end of March Street.
• Granville: Raglan Street.
• Lamington Bridge Aquatic Area: South Street.
• Beaver Rock: Approx 17kilometres from Maryborough along the Beaver Rock Road. There is a boat ramp to launch your boat and plenty of shade along the grassed area overlooking the river for a picnic.

From Beaver Rock to the mouth of the Mary at River Heads, you can fish for bream, king salmon, flathead, summer whiting and cod.

 

Toogoom
Toogoom and the surrounding waters are a haven for many species including flathead, bream, snapper, tailor, summer and winter whiting, mangrove jacks and queen fish. Go up Beelbi Creek for crabbing.

Lake Lenthall
Regarded as one of the most consistent bass fisheries in the country, the lake also has good catches of yellow belly (golden perch) and barramundi along with silver perch, spangled perch and eel-tailed catfish. Each year, the Fraser Coast Fish Stocking Association stock Lake Lenthallwith fingerlings.

Note: The access road to the lake is unsealed. A fishing permit is required.

 

The Great Sandy Strait
The Great Sandy Strait is a maze of sandy channels and deep snag-ridden holes that house almost every fish that anglers dream of. The Great Sandy Marine Park has a few green zones as well as some go-slow areas for the protection of turtles and dugong, both of which are plentiful in the area.

A great variety of fish including coral trout, bream, whiting, flathead, mackerel, tailor and mangrove jack inhabit the waters, along with sand and mud crabs.

 

Maaroom, Boonooroo, Tuan, Poona and Tinnanbar
The townships of the Great Sandy Strait are made for boating and fishing.

You can fish from the shore or explore the mangrove lined creeks or the sheltered waters with a small motorboat or kayak.

Burrum River
The river’s extensive sand flats, channels and mangrove-lined banks offer the angler great fishing, crabbing and prawning.

Mangrove jack and barramundi can be located around the rock bars at the lower tidal reaches.

Burrum Heads
The calm blue waters of this popular seaside village provide an excellent place to fish from the beach, a boat or from the foreshore.

Catch mackerel out from the mouth of the Burrum River at Burrum Heads.

• Caravan Park, Burrum Heads Road, Ross Street.

 

Tiaro
Petrie Park in Vandoorn Road at Tiaro is the best place to access the Mary River.

Overnight rest and camping area, fishing spot and picnic grounds.

Launch a boat off the ramp or fish off the bank for bass, barramundi and catfish.
