Tiaro

In the restored railway station on the Bruce Highway, you will find the Tiaro Visitor Information Centre and Craft Cottage. Friendly volunteers will help you with maps, tour routes and information about the area. Also, you can buy some homemade jams, pickles, cakes and local arts and crafts.

At Tiaro you can browse arts and crafts, take time out to dine in historic hotels, picnic by the Mary River and visit a museum which captures our pioneering spirit.

Visit Tiaro Meats and Bacon, famous throughout Australia for the quality and variety of its meats and smallgoods and seafood is a speciality at the Bush and Bay Café.

Two historic hotels reside in Tiaro, the Hideaway Station Hotel (c.1881) and the the Royal Hotel, both in the main street.

Stay a while in Tiaro, at the fully self-contained cabins at the Tiaro Tourist Stopover or the Tiaro District Motor Inn.

There is free camping, (2 night maximum) in the heart of Tiaro behind the Royal Hotel and overnight camping at Petrie Park on the Mary River.

While staying in the area, visit Bauple, home of the macadamia nut, and the Prince Alfred Hotel at Gundiah, 14 kilometres south of Tiaro.

Between Maryborough and Tiaro is Pineapple Hill on the Bruce Highway at Owanyilla. Try the freshest and juiciest of farm produce, especially the pineapples. Call into Owanyilla Riverside Park on the banks of the Mary River, just off the Bruce Highway. There are picnic facilities and a jetty for swimming and canoeing.
